Applying tinting film to car or household windows may be fun, but removing it can be tricky if you don?t take your time. Here are a few ways to get rid of tinting film when it starts to bubble and look shabby or when you just get tired of the look. The methods are similar for removing tinting film from car and household windows.

First, gather your tools and supplies. Some type of knife will be needed to strip the film. A utility knife with a wide blade or an X-Acto? knife would do the job. Make sure you have several black thirty gallon trash bags available. The bigger the bag, the easier it will be to cut it to fit the size of your car window. You will also need fine steel wool pads, paper towels, glass cleaner, a drop cloth, and ammonia. If you prefer not to use straight ammonia because of the smell and inhalation hazards, choose a general cleaning product that contains ammonia. These will do, but read the label to make sure that ammonia is an ingredient.

To begin, the tinting film needs to be softened for removal. Spray the outside of the back car window with water. Tear open a trash bag and cover the window with it. Use the knife or a pair of scissors to cut the bag to fit the window. On the inside of the back window, remove all items from the window and the back seat. Lay a drop cloth over the back seat and the area directly under the back window to protect them from damage. Spray ammonia over the entire inside of the glass. A mask and goggles would keep the ammonia fumes from harming you. Again, fit a trash bag to the inside of the window. The bags keep the solutions from evaporating as they soften the tinting film. If it is a sunny day, turn the car so that the rear window or whatever car window you are working on gets the full force of the sun?s rays. If no sun is about, try the car?s defroster. Wait at least ten minutes before trying to strip the film.

For household windows, use soapy water to soften the tinting film instead of ammonia. No trash bags are needed for the windows in your house. Once the film has softened, start at the corner of the film and with your knife, peel the film back slowly. Once the film has been removed, clean the car windows with steel wool to remove residual pieces. Then use glass cleaner and paper towels. Household windows shouldn?t need more than glass cleaner and paper towels to clean them. The removal process is now complete.

Car window tints offers privacy and UV protection, but assess your skills before taking on this project yourself: At the very least, you’d better be good at measuring and cutting. This is a precision job but can be done by almost everybody.

Instructions

1: For car window tint in 15 steps you will need the following tools and materials:

tinting film, an X-Acto knife, razors, a blow dryer or heat gun, 4-inch squeegees, small sponges, a 4-inch hard card , a bone tool, and a spray bottle filled with a mixture of dishwashing soap and water.

2: Cut the film in the shape of the windows. Set cutouts aside on a glass board or an area devoted to cut film. This can be done easily by using the outside of the car window as a template.

3: Spray the side window with the soap and water mixture.

4: Use a razor to go over the side window to remove any residue.

5: Use a 4-inch squeegee to get rid of any residue from top to bottom. Paste the residue out of the film.

6: Apply the tint to the side window. Leave 1/4 inch to 1/16 inch from the top edge of the window without tint. This will be covered when the window and door are closed. This step is very important with car window tint in 15 steps

7: Push the tint below the inner rubber seals of the window.

8: Use the card to make sure that the tint goes into all the corners.

9: Take a blow dryer in one hand and a squeegee in the other, and heat from the top on one side, working the tint with the squeegee on the other side in a horizontal motion. This should get out any remaining moisture from between the film and glass. This ensures that the film is cleanly stuck.

10: Use the same system to apply the tint film to the front window.

11: Follow steps 3 and 5 in applying the film to the back window.

12: Count the number of defroster heater lines on the back window.

13: Cut the rear window film into the required number of panels.

14: Place the first panel on the bottom, the second panel on top of the first, the third panel on top of the second and so on. Identify the heater line where two panels overlap.

15: Trim the film from over the defroster lines.

And there you have it…You have successfully used CAR WINDOW TINT with 15 simple steps to add a whole new feel and look to your car.

It could not be any easier than this!

With virtually only two seasons in Phoenix, AZ winter and summer, it won’t be long it’s summer again.

And that means stifling heat, scorching steering wheels, and getting sweaty from those ?hot seats.?

And, it might just be time to tint your auto windows. But, it?s not just for comfort?tinting your auto windows is a rather minor investment considering these short and long-term benefits, in comfort and safety:

Avoid overheating: your cars interior can be 60 percent cooler during those sizzling summer days with proper tinting.

Protect your skin: harmful UV rays from the sun can cause skin cancer. Tinting your car can block 99 percent of these damaging rays. Statistics show that drivers develop skin cancer more frequently on the side that they drive on (left side for Americans and right for Australians).

In an auto accident, window tinting can help shattered glass hold together, protecting the occupants of the car.

Tinting your windshield reduces dangerous glare from the sun, snow and other headlights, helping you to focus on the road ahead, and any obstacles that might be in it!

Auto window tinting can help protect your privacy and contents ? what a burglar can?t see, he won?t be tempted to steal.

Harmful UV rays and heat cause car upholstery to crack and fade ? tinting will keep your car in prime condition to maximize the resale value.

Arizona Auto Tinting Laws

Auto window tinting is the ideal solution for your car during Phoenix’s summer months; however, there are auto window tinting laws that dictate just how dark you are allowed to go. Darkness of tint is measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%). In Arizona, this refers to the percentage of visible light allowed through the combination of film and the window.

The AZ window tinting law states that your front side windows must allow more than 33 percent of light in. For the back side windows and rear window, any darkness can be used. For your windshield, non-reflective tint is allowed along the top of the windshield above the manufacturer?s AS-1 line.

How to Find a Good Phoenix Window Tinting Company

To find a good Phoenix window tinting company, ask your list of auto tinting shops the following questions:

How long have you been in business at this location and do you have other shops in the area? Good Arizona auto tinting shops prosper despite local competition by offering good service at reasonable prices. Find an Arizona window tinting shop that has been in business at least five years.

What types of films do you carry? Quality auto tinting shops in Arizona carry complete lines of film from one or multiple manufacturers. They should carry dyed, hybrid, and metallic window films in a variety of colors and darknesses. Beware of Arizona auto tinting stores that carry only one or two lines of film?and sells them aggressively!

What warranty do you offer? The warranty on the tinting depends on the window film you choose. It’s recommended you install only window film backed with a lifetime warranty for materials and labor.

Can I visit your auto tinting shop in PHoenix and can you provide a sample of your work? The work area should be indoors and clean. And the best shops always apply film in a single piece. Film applied to side windows should be completely flush against all four edges of the window.

Consider window tinting in Phoenix to protect yourself and your vehicle?s interior. By preventing excessive UV exposure, you will maximize your vehicle’s resale value.

Oddly, this is a even harder subject than explaining how window film works. The price for a car tint can vary dramatically from the cheapest fly-by-night tint shop from $100 to the luxury tint shop’s $400 or more or merely $80 for a DIY car tint kit. For each of these situations, the price can be considered reasonable. If we really break it down, a reasonable price is depends on the following factors:

Your Car Type

Quite simply, a small percentage of cars are harder to tint than others. When getting a price quote, a tint shop always asks you for the make and model of your car. This isn’t to see how much money you have and charge you up the wazoo. (Often it is with less reputable tinters)

Tinters know which cars take more time to tint properly. Some cars with steep and curved rear windows like the Volkswagon Beetle or Corvette tinters often charge a premium to tint. Additionally, each additional square foot of window on your vehicle requires more window film to tint. This makes tinting a SUV or station wagons cost more than sedans.

Type of Tinting Film

Just like comparing a Hyundai to a Porsche, there are wide performance and cost differences in tinting film. The cheapest tinting film is many times less in price than top quality window film. Again, you get what you pay for.

Cheap film may look good at the beginning, but they can fail to block the summer heat, fade, turn purple, or bubble soon after installation. Higher quality window film such as fully-metallized sputtered or deposition window films like SolarGard HP filmsoffer both advanced performance and a lifetime warranty. These films are worth the higher price.

Performance Warranty

You are highly encouraged to ask about the Performance Warranty before you pay for tinting services from anybody. Typically these Warranty’s can last from as little as 1 year to a Lifetime.

Not all Warrantees are created equal! Most warrantees only cover problems such as cracking, glazing, bubbling, and peeling. Some films carry a “Color-Safe Warranty” that gives you peace of mind that if the color of your tint ever changes, it will be replaced. The best warrantees are “Transferable” which allow you to transfer the warranty to another person when you sell the car. This adds permanent value to your car.

Be Careful! Irresponsible tint shops can also offer “Lifetime Warrantees”; however, if they go out of business next year, who is there to replace your bubbling tint? You should always factor in this “hidden” cost when buying low priced car tint.

Dealer’s Reputation

Reputable Tint Shops take great pride in their work. They have high standards in who they hire, the film they use, and overall customer service and experience.

Naturally, this increases the cost for them to do business, and they charge more as a result. To make sure you are talking to a quality dealer, ask these questions when choosing a tint shop.

There are two excellent window tinting resources that you should consider when buying car tint:

Pre-Cut Car Tint Kits at http://www.snaptint.com is an easy and affordable way to tint your car. The kits are priced at $60 for a 2 door coupe and $80 for a 4 door sedan. You get top quality Solargard HP film, better than most professionals use. The film is cut precisely to your car’s exact window dimensions. Simply take a couple of hours during an afternoon and install it yourself at home.

Car Tint Price Quote at http://www.tintcenter.com takes the guesswork out of who is a reputable dealer in your area. TintCenter dealers deliver quality film and quality service at reasonable prices.

Good luck on your window film shopping adventure.

There is a lot of revenue involved in the window tinting business. This business can be divided into car, residences and commercial window tinting.

The laws on automotive window tinting are quite strict. From the federal governments point of view, any aftermarket film application is illegal. But every state is allowed to have its own laws on that, and fortunately, they have taken a more permissive attitude toward allowing darker shades of film on vehicles. Some people have reported that tint laws may vary even in the different regions within the same state. So no matter the case, check with your regional Police Department for the most current window tinting laws, rules or regulations.

The window tinting laws can really get confusing at times, because of the many changes that were made and still are. Every state has a collection of laws that is like a patchwork quilt and as time passes, more patches need to be added and removed to keep the laws applicable towards the future. Because of this process, window tint laws can get inconsistent at times and make the entire section subject to personal interpretation.

By its very nature, auto window tinting reduces the visible light transmittance through a car’s windows. This holds a potential danger, because at night, it becomes harder for the driver to see trough the windows of other vehicles in order to spot hazards which would otherwise be obstructed. Police officers also want to be able to identify the passengers in a vehicle. Therefore, laws are made in order to make sure that the darkness of films do not present a danger to motorists.

The most important characteristic of every window film is the VLT - Visible Light Transmission %. VLT% tells you how much visible light is allowed to shine into the car and respectively how dark the tint looks. Generally the films are sold as 5%(limo), 20%(dark), 35%(medium), 50%(light). The regional law specifies the allowable VLT. The level of darkness range starts from a Light Smoke (43 per cent VLT) through Smoke, Midnight and Limousine. The current trend is for the lighter shades. The federal Department of Transportation specifies a minimum of 70% Visible Light Transmission for window tinting on the windshield and the windows to the immediate left and right of the driver. And from the factory, all cars come with 70% VLT, which means that installing a window tint film will practically be illegal. Private vehicles may have tint on the windows to the immediate left and right of the driver as dark as 20% VLT, depending on the state.

Window tinting reduces the transmittance of visible light through a car’s windows. This can be problematic when its dark since it reduces the ability of cars around a car with tinted windows to spot traffic problems. Window tinting can also be a problem for the safety of police officers since the officer may not be able to see into the car.

There are laws in many states regulating window tinting. These laws prevent people from using a window tinting film that is too dark.

The United States Department of Transportation requires a minimum of 70% visible light transmission for window tinting on the windshield and windows to the left and right of the driver. There are no specified window tinting regulations for the other windows on a car. Many states have laws that go further to regulate window tinting within their state. Private vehicles can have window tinting as dark as 20% visible light transmission depending on the state.

Installing window tinting is usually done professionally with special films. Incorrect installations may cause bubbles or peels.

Removing window tinting can be even more difficult. The adhesive that adheres the film to the window is very difficult to remove. It is best to leave this job to a professional as the film must first be heated, then peeled off, and then the glue must be dissolved with ammonia so it can be wiped off.

Window Tinting looks great on a car, but it must be done properly or you can face many problems.

Most metropolitan areas have an abundance of tint shop choices. In the San Francisco, CA area alone, there are 30 different tint shops within a 30 mile radius. How does a discerning consumer choose the tint shop that does quality work? What is the difference between a “Dr. Tint” and a “Quality Window Tinting”?We at TintCenter.com Window Tinting Guides suggest that you do a little research. First, compile a list of 5 potential tint shops that are likely to do good work. Ask your friends an co-workers who have tinted their cars which tint shops they chose, look in the Yellow Pages and mark down the tint shops with large professional advertisements, or come to TintCenter.com and get price quotes from a local tint shops. Once you have this list in-hand, its time to interview each dealer:

How long have you been in business at this location? Do you have other shops in the area?Good tint shops prosper despite local competition by offering good service at reasonable prices. We suggest that you find a tint shopthat has been in business for 5 or more years at the same location. This shows a stable business that will be there years down the road if somehow the tint goes bad.Often times, successful tint shops open car tinting branches in neighboring cities. Although the installers of the branches may not be the master tinter of the bunch, since opening new shops means training new employees; however, branches are a sure sign of a successful tinting business.
What types of films do you carry? What warranty do you offer on your work?Quality tint shops carry complete lines of window film from one or multiple window filmmanufacturers. They should carry dyed, hybrid, and metallic window films in a variety of colors and darknesses. Beware of tint shops that only carry one or two lines of film, and sells them aggressively. They may have acquired this film on sale, and may not be thinking of your unique requirements and concerns. The warranty on the car tint varies depending on the window film you choose. TintCenter recommends that you install only window film backed with a lifetime warranty for materials and labor. Most films don’t guarantee color and fading, it is recommended that you also choose one that does. For the warranty to take effect, remember to get only legal window tint for your car. Illegal tint can nullify any manufacturer’s warranty. When you purchase your tint, be sure sure you get a manufacturer’s warranty card from the dealer with the date, the window film used on each window, and the total cost of installation as well as the receipt.
Can I visit your tint shop? Can you show me a sample of your work when I’m there?Tint shops can sound like the best shop on the phone, but 15 minutes on-site should tell you all you need to know. Good dealers pay attention to customer service. They should be happy and willing to spend the time to talk to you and explain how their shops work. Remember, if they don’t spend time with you know, will they spend time with you when there is something wrong with your tint job?A tint shop’s work area should be indoors and clean. Their tools and window films are organized in a professional manner. If the tint shop is outdoors or in a parking lot, this is a negative since it iscritical to remove all dust and dirt from the windows before applying window film. Now take a look at a car they have already tinted, and look at the rear window. Is the window film applied in a single piece or is it cut into strips that surround the defroster lines? The most skilled tint shops always apply film in a single piece. Now look at the borders of the rear window, in many cars there is a black ‘frit’ edge on the window, Make sure the window film looks securely attached to the frit as well.Pay attention to side-windows. The window film should be applied to the inside and be completely flush against all 4 edges of the window. Now look at thewindow film itself. Don’t worry if the film itself looks slightly streaky and discolored, window film takes a couple weeks to dry out and become completely clear. If there are bubbles of air under the film or the film itself is not complete flat against the window, this is a sure sign of sloppy tinting.

Get price quotes from each dealer for the exact darkness, color, and type of window film you want. Never compromise because there are plenty of other dealers out there that will offer your perfect tint. With these price quotes and your research on each tint shop, make the decision. Refer to the cost of car tint article to help you rank the dealers. After you make your decision, remember to always make an appointment with the tint shop before you tint your car. Even if they say “drop-ins accepted” or “bring it over any time”, you want you tinter to be calm and prepared for you when you arrive and not rushed. Tinting may take a couple hours to half a day, so either arrange a ride or go to a nearby coffee shop with a good book. Enjoy!

How to Choose the Right Window Tinting Shop

You dont want to fool around when choosing a window tinter for your car. Keep an ear open for recommendations for the best companies who can tint your car windows. If you know beforehand of a window tinting shop you feel comfortable with, you wont need to make a rushed or incomplete decision when you need one.

Ask friends and associates for their recommendations. I stay in touch with homeschooling families. Theyre often part of a larger group that can share recommendations for mechanics theyve felt were honest and reputable.

Check with your local Better Business Bureau regarding the reputation of a particular window tint shop. Ask about the number of complaints, if there were any, and how the complaints were resolved. Dont be too anxious if there were some complaints. No one pleases everybody, and there are some people you cant satisfy no matter what. But if you see a pattern of the same kinds of problems, beware.

Next, pay a visit to the shop and ask if they handle your vehicle make and model. Check to see how long theyve been in business. What kind of feel do you get about the place? Are you treated with courtesy? Does the staff behave professionally?

You dont need to white glove test the place, but it should be neat, and organized. Also, times are achangin, and modern equipment is an absolute must.

Sometimes, vehicle manufacturers recommend specific window tinting procedures and tools for the tinting of their vehicles. Ask if the shop is trained in these procedures and has the necessary equipment.

Are there any civic and community service awards hanging on the walls? Its a nice touch. Do you see diplomas or certificates of competence? You want a technically competent staff.

Look around the place. What kinds of vehicles seem to be in the int? Does everything look like its being handled professionally? Dont be shy about talking to folks in the waiting room to see theyve tried the shop before and how pleased they are with the service theyve received in the past.

My number one suggestion is to ask around and see where others have had satisfactory car repair work done. Even if youre feeling stressed and in a hurry, ask at least 15 people. That way, youre likely to get the same place mentioned more than once. A little time spent on the basics can save you a load of trouble in the long run. And once you find mechanic you trust, your cars future looks a lot brighter.

Tinting Windows is a job that can be done by yourself if you can follow instructions although window tinting by a professional can be relatively inexpensive.
