Coverage

Installed cost, sedan, ceramic, all side + rear windows

~$600

Low~$350
Typical~$600
High~$850

Ceramic film, whole car: ~$600 typical (~$350–$850) across 2 guides, × 1.00 vehicle factor for a sedan

What drives the range: film brand and heat-rejection grade, number and curvature of the windows, shop labor rates and location, warranty terms, and whether old film must come off first.

Tint darkness (VLT %) is regulated by state and differs by window. Check your state's rules before picking a shade: Texas DPS window tinting standards is one example of an official page, and the AAA tinting guide explains how VLT limits work.

Film ranges are for a whole car (all side windows plus the rear window): lowest low to highest high across the guides that price that film, typical = average of their midpoints. Vehicle type scales that range by a factor = the vehicle's published midpoint ÷ the sedan midpoint ($400), because no source publishes a film-by-vehicle grid. Windshield strip and removal are added as published. How It Works

No public source publishes a full film-by-vehicle price grid, so the calculator combines two kinds of published ranges. The film type sets the whole-car price: AAA’s guide lists dyed film at $250–$300, carbon at $350–$500, ceramic at $400–$800 and specialty infrared films at $500–$1,200, and Rayno Window Film’s guide lists dyed at $99–$350, carbon at $150–$450 and ceramic at $350–$850. For each film the low end is the lowest low, the high end is the highest high, and the typical figure is the average of the guides’ midpoints.

The vehicle type then scales that range. iSeeCars and Kelley Blue Book price a sedan at $250–$600 and $250–$500 (midpoint $400), Rayno and iSeeCars price a coupe at $120–$450 and $200–$600, an SUV or minivan at $250–$750, and a pickup at about $350. Each vehicle’s factor is its published midpoint divided by the sedan midpoint, so a sedan is 1.00, a coupe 0.86, an SUV 1.25 and a pickup 0.88. All figures are for the side windows plus the rear window; a windshield strip adds AAA’s $60–$100, and old-tint removal adds AAA’s row for your vehicle size (coupes use the compact-car row).

Front-two-only jobs and full windshields are not priced by these sources, so the calculator does not offer them. Tint darkness is measured as visible light transmission (VLT) and is regulated by state and by window; check your state’s official page before choosing a shade.

Worked Example

A sedan with ceramic film, a windshield strip and old tint to remove. Ceramic runs $350–$850 across AAA and Rayno with a typical of $600, and the sedan factor is 1.00, so the film line is $350 low, ~$600 typical and $850 high. The strip adds $60–$100 (~$80) and sedan removal adds $150–$250 (~$200). Total: ~$560 low, ~$880 typical, ~$1,200 high.

FAQ

Why does the SUV price only go up 25%?

Because that is what the published ranges say: Rayno and iSeeCars both put an SUV at $250–$750 against a sedan at $250–$600 and $250–$500. Kelley Blue Book notes that a large van or SUV with premium nano-ceramic film and a sunroof can reach $1,000 or more, so a big three-row vehicle with top-tier film can land above the high figure.

Does the estimate include the front windshield?

Only the top strip (brow), and only when you select it. Full-windshield film is offered by some shops and restricted or banned in many states; none of the cited guides publishes a price for it.

Should I pay for ceramic over carbon?

The guides put ceramic roughly $150–$350 above carbon on the same car. Our guide to whether ceramic tint is worth it and the carbon vs ceramic comparison cover what that buys in heat rejection and longevity.

How dark can I go?

That depends on your state and the window. Limits are set as a minimum VLT percentage and are usually stricter for the front side windows than the rear; see our tint laws hub for state guides, and confirm with your DMV or state police page before installation.

Are these prices for my area?

They are US national ranges. Rayno and iSeeCars both note that shop location and labor rates move the price, and shops in large metros tend to quote nearer the high end.
